A special day in Dublin for the Spanish EU Presidency

#Traveltradetogether

As Spain takes on the important role of EU Presidency, Jacinta from Travelbiz was privileged to attend the inauguration event in Ailesbury House in Dublin on July 6th. The beautifully maintained grounds of the Spanish Embassy in Dublin 4 have hosted many important events, but today’s Presidential Inauguration was very special. The hard work of Maria Soledad Aizpurua (PA to the Ambassador) and Ruben Lopez (Director Spanish Tourist Office Dublin) and his terrific team of Kathryn Mc Donnell and Sara Lopez was evident in the smooth running and enjoyment of the day.

Minister Peter Burke and His Excellency Ambassador de la Riva both spoke passionately marking the occasion to welcome the Spanish Presidency of the European Union for the next semester. Spanish friends and many Ambassadors graced the lawns (and regrettably, due to the vagaries of our Irish weather, had to take shelter in the marquee!), but the festive atmosphere was not dampened. His Excellency Ambassador de la Riva welcomed the gathering to express his pride in Spain assuming the prestigious Presidency.

He advised that the motto is: EUROPA MAS CERCA (Europe Closer) and reinforced commitment to the Ukrainian effort and Spain’s horror of war mongering. Minister Peter Burke (Minister of State for European Affairs & Defence) agreed wholeheartedly with Ambassador de la Riva’s comments and emphasised the cooperation between our two nations and Ireland’s appreciation of Spanish support throughout Brexit. He promised continued support to Spain for the EU Presidency and commented that migrants are needed in an emerging Europe. Both speakers agreed that climate change is a challenge to be faced and both wish to build momentum between Europe and the US. Background tones of a talented harpist and classical guitarist set the relaxed ambience for the afternoon and tempting tapas were washed down with Albarino and Rioja wines. Gracias y buena suerte en la Presidencia. Viva Espana!
