Flying the flag for Ireland in Thailand on this terrific trip courtesy of TAT, Jacinta from Travelbiz and Barry Coughlan from Cork are delighted to be the sole representatives to report on our amazing experiences in Amazing Thailand. We visit some really extraordinary temples and witness architecture and artistry that defy belief. Statue adornment, bas-relief on pillars and gold leaf is spectacular. The images of Buddha, the Enlightened, are awe inspiring and the temples in his honour are justifiably splendid.
True to the kindness and gentle nature of Thai people, I saw several instances of cats making themselves quite at home on the soft carpets at the entrance to a few temples! We saw the smallest temple in Thailand and also some of the most important in the Province. One of my never to be forgotten experiences was the alms giving to monks in the marketplace in Nan. I found it very emotional. A senior monk, clothed in his saffron robes and soaking wet ankle socks, had adequate English to ask where I’d come from and then blessed me and wished me happiness. I was profoundly moved. To be in the presence of the monks it to feel a true bond and experience an inner peace. They just exude goodness and kindness. Their expressions are quietly joyful, placid and peaceful. For sure, Thailand is absolutely amazing.
