In case you didn’t know, Thailand is not only the Land of Smiles, but it’s also the Land of Temples. And what Temples! One is more stunning, intricately carved and gilded than the next. We stop at Wat Phuket (not to be confused with the Island of Phuket!) and the Temple itself is beautiful, but its location in the Pua District overlooking rice paddies with dramatic mountains etched on the skyline as backdrop is a sight to behold. A local lady was selling her own honey under the shade of a tree. Idyllic. We drove further into the clouds on a long and winding road around hairpin bends to emerge through vertiginous mountains into lush valleys with 40 shades of green! Bo Kluea, a natural salt pond, is famous for salt production since ancient times, and is used both for domestic purposes and beauty by- products. We stroll around Sapan Village, a serene little hamlet where a few glamping pods are springing up on the riverside and walk to the waterfall. Views everywhere are simply lovely. We’re staying at Nan Boutique Hotel, a gorgeous little bolthole in Nan city with lovely rooms, delicious breakfast and delightful staff. There may be a little spa treatment on the horizon……. I told you tie-dyeing and fabulous indigo colour garments were on the agenda, but we also even dyed our own scarves and bags. Then, heaven forbid the lack of modesty, but we actually modelled them!!!!!! Only in Thailand and only with TAT.
