Irish Trade partners in Jerusalem with ATTS
It has been amazing few days in Israel experiencing the beaches and nightlife of Tel Aviv, the old town of Jaffa, through the friendliest desert in the world, experiencing the Dead Sea and completing our journey to one of the oldest cities in the world, Jerusalem. The American Colony hotel is our base for the last stop on our tour of this amazing destination where you have a mix of a Mediterranean style resort mixed with a history and diversity of product that is unrivalled.
We began our time in Jerusalem at the viewing point at the Mt of Olives which provides you with a perfect panoramic view of this ancient city. The site is a very important one for both Christian and Jewish traditions. Exploring the old city of Jerusalem, we entered the gates of the old city walking the Via Dolorosa retracing the stations of the cross ending in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher which is a complex of various chapels built on what was called the Hill of Golgotha. The site is mentioned in all four canonical Gospels, and it contains, according to traditions dating back to at least the fourth century, the Calvary, where Jesus was crucified, and the Tomb of Christ, where he was buried and resurrected.
Regardless of your beliefs you cannot help but feel the energy of the pilgrim’s dedication and emotion as you walk through the old city visiting the Western Wall, known as the Wailing wall and the cardo, an ancient commercial street with bustling markets and traders at very corner where you can still shop and trade today.
The Tower of David Museum is a must visit which is the restored ancient Citadel. We got to see an amazing light show when we arrived which depicts the history of this unique city through displays and exhibits. The museum also offers an exceptional panoramic view from its towers and ramparts.
Walking through the Machane Yehuda Market – Israeli Shook, which is adjacent to the Museum of David you are transported back in time in this unique atmosphere taking in the smells, colours through the winding alleys and stalls where you can take time out to taste and sample local products.
We ended our day and evening in Jerusalem with a dinner in the Dolphin Yam Restaurant which was established in 1967 making it the oldest Seafood and meat restaurant in Jerusalem.
