The Australian Ambassador to Ireland Gary Gray opened proceedings with a passionate speech about the indigenous history of Australia which is one of the oldest recorded with humans arriving as hunter/gathers 65,000 years ago!  Referencing European links and the Irish connection to Australian history Gary made specific reference to Qatar Airways supporting commercial and tourism links throughout the pandemic which will always hold a special place in his heart and those who benefited directly from Qatar Airways commitment to maintaining connectivity via its multi award winning network.

Matt Tarrant (Qatar Airways) and Sally Cope (Tourism Australia) thanked all trade and media partners for their support as numbers from Ireland continue to grow back to pre-pandemic levels with Ireland established as one of the strongest markets in 2023. See Tourism Australia data here https://www.tourism.australia.com/en/insights/tourism-statistics/international-market-performance.html

Peter and Sally from Tourism Australia also shared these key Irish Performance points;
• Ireland is one of the fastest international markets to rebound back to 2019 visitor arrival numbers to Australia.
• This recovery is partially thanks to the strong people-to-people connections between both countries with VFR initially driving the numbers, but leisure holiday makers are now also returning.
• The highly valued youth travel market is showing strong signs of recovery with working holiday visas issued for young Irish travellers wanting to work and travel throughout Australia, now exceeding 2019 levels.

Key points for the trade to note from Qatar include.
