TIGS Con Horgan Presidents day

#Traveltradetogether

Our President, Mr Con Horgan, hosted lucky TIGS members in his own club, Royal Dublin Golf Club on 6th September 2022, in what was our final outing of the 2022 season. A very fitting end to a successful TIGS season, not only did Con host at his home club, but his Castlerosse Park Resort in Killarney also generously sponsored the event and prizes. As we kept an eagle (the only eagle experienced for the day!) eye on the weather, luck was on our side for the front 9, and despite a deluge from the 14th, the day went off swimmingly otherwise. Regrettably, a few golf balls went for a swim too, but that was conversation for the 19th!

For sure Royal Dublin Golf Club is no pushover. The tough links course proved difficult for many, although this writer shone luminously (and if you believe that…..) but actually managed to finish 18 holes. The prize podium proved elusive though as Royal Dublin GC is long, sandy and undulating with bunkers and sand dunes warranting a few buckets and spades. Personally, I excelled in the bunkers whose walls veered vertiginously, reminiscent of the Cliffs of Moher. Nonetheless, there was a great turnout for the event and a few members even valiantly drove from Cork and Carlow to join us in the final TIGS event of the year.

The AGM was held afterwards and outgoing Captain Olwen Mc Kinney made a lovely speech then handed the reins to Marian Benton for the coming year. Mr President Con Horgan was amusing in his sum-up and was elected incoming President again. There was the usual conviviality in the Clubhouse afterwards and an excellent meal soothed the nerves of those who climbed sand dunes, negotiated bunkers and generally wanted to put their clubs on eBay following stand-out performances on the fairways! Con showed a great video displaying the charms of his Killarney property, Castlerosse Park Resort, and where the top prize winners could look forward to a 3 night weekend stay or a 4 night midweek break. (absolutely stunning prizes in the President’ Lake View Lodge for up to 4 adults or a family of 6). The overall winner took home a Taylor Made driver including a personal fitting from the Pro Shop in Royal Dublin GC.  Viva TIGS and thank you Mr President. Indeed, it was a right royal do, so Mr President take a bow!
