Travelbiz Celebrates Picasso

Jacinta from Travelbiz joined Ruben Lopez and his super team at the Spanish Tourism Office Dublin in a wonderful evening of culture in the Iveagh Garden Hotel on November 29th.  In collaboration with Malaga City ably represented by Ana Maria Molina (Malaga City Tourism Board), the Spanish Tourism Office pulled out all the stops to celebrate the life and works of one of their major artists, Pablo Picasso.

Ruben made a lovely speech and opened by offering his own personal condolences on the heart-breaking news of our industry’s beloved Robbie’s demise. The fabulous musician, Juan Jose Manzano plucked at his guitar in true Flamenco style and added to the poignancy of the evening.

Picasso is of my own personal favourite artists and was not only prolific but perennially popular due to his uncommon talent and genius with a brush. Picasso is a native of Malaga City and he happily left a marked legacy to his beloved birthplace and the Spanish cities of A Coruna, Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid. Not only did Picasso excel as a painter, but further talents revealed he was adept as a sculptor, ceramicist and printmaker. Perhaps best known for his masterpiece Guernica, Picasso contributed hugely to developing modern art in the 20th century. He invented Cubism with Georges Braque but other modes included his Blue Period, Rose Period, Neo-Classicism and Surrealism. Apparently, Picasso tried all his life to paint like a child and was obsessed with Velasquez. Last night, celebrating the 50th anniversary of his death, Ruben told us that “Spain Inspired Picasso and employed the motto for Spain: Come and find your Inspiration.

Picasso left a priceless legacy and he is lauded and revered in over 30 countries worldwide. His legacy continues to inspire. If you’ve not already visited the Picasso Museum in beautiful Malaga City, I urge you to go soon. It’s a delight from start to finish. Be sure also to visit Casa Natal, the house where Picasso was born. It’s now a museum with sketches of some of his iconic works.

By the way, Malaga City is a wonderful destination itself, worthy of at least several days exploration. Forget the well -known (albeit brilliant resorts along Costa del Sol) for a moment and concentrate on the city. Having received a makeover in recent years, Malaga City has many pedestrianised streets, amazing architecture, imposing Cathedral, great shopping and super restaurants that would give the entire Costa a run for its money! Come find your inspiration. Viva Espana.
