Santiago de Compostela, here we come

Travelbiz Senior Reporter Jacinta McGlynn and Kathryn MacDonnell from the Spanish Tourist Office in Dublin en route to Santiago de Compostela on Aer Lingus’ direct service from Dublin.

Thank you Jenny Rafter for our upgrade on Aer Lingus Airbus A321neo – business class. Joining us are our valued Cork trade partners, travelling on the direct Aer Lingus service from Cork as we explore the stunning region of Galicia in northern Spain.

From the historic pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela and its UNESCO-listed Old Town to Galicia’s spectacular Atlantic coastline, world-class gastronomy, vibrant culture, and authentic visitor experiences, we’re looking forward to showcasing everything this incredible destination has to offer the Irish travel trade.

A huge thank you to Aer Lingus and our partners at the Spanish Tourist Office for making this educational journey possible.

Santiago de Compostela with the Spanish Tourist Office & Aer Lingus is proving to be an amazing trip. The city is absolutely mesmerising. History and atmosphere seep from the very walls. The architecture is completely wonderful and the Cathedral in all its granite splendour has to be the most fitting end to the pilgrimage for those who walk the Camino and follow in the steps of St James.

Our guide, Daniel, was a dote and an expert in the history and culture of the city. We’re here for a short time, but revelling in the direct flights from Dublin and Cork which make this fabulous area of Galicia so accessible from Ireland. Our stay in NH Collection 5* is delightful and only a short walk to the centre.

Our dinner in Restaurant Marie Marin last night was utterly divine. You need not even be a pilgrim here – come for the delightful food (tapas to die for!) and delicious local Albariño wine from nearby Rias Biaxas and, of course the spectacular old town with its colonnades, traditional shops and cafes.

It’s heavenly. I will definitely return.
