Visit Malta for a Christmas Break!

Why not get ready for the festive season with a trip to Malta? There is lots of festive fun happening in Malta this December that is sure to get you into the Christmas mood. With direct flight with both Aer Lingus and Ryanair getting to Malta has never been easier. With a flight time of just three and a half hours, it’s a perfect short winter escape.

A trip to the Maltese Islands is an unmissable experience for any type of traveller. With so much to see and do, whether you’re a history buff, a night owl, a thrill seeker, or simply a rambler wishing to visit the Christmas markets, the list of things to do in Malta is endless.

If you’re looking for something a bit different then Tease the Season – a festive, theatre-level night of burlesque and variety hosted by Undine LaVerve, might be for you. Tease the Season takes place on the 5th December at the Malta Society of Arts, in Valletta and features performances from students of Burlesque Academy Malta alongside a curated selection of local and international guest artists. Expect sultry routines, striking stagecraft and a touch of festive mischief.

Fairyland – Malta’s Christmas staple, is back and this year, it’s even better! Pjazza Tritoni in Valletta will once again be transformed into Santa’s City and will extend all the way to the Granaries in Floriana bringing the magic of Christmas to life from the 5th of December until the 4th of January 2026. Some of the many attractions include Rudolph’s Wheel, The Chaos Lab and a visit from Santa and his elves!

You can also visit the Christmas Market in Ta’ Sannat on the 6th and 7th December. Visitors can explore stalls featuring a variety of crafts, sweets, mulled wine, traditional chestnuts, decorations, and gifts. Children will also have the chance to meet Santa and take a photo. The highlight will be the Christmas Parade along the main street of the village, ending at St Margaret Square.

Get ready to welcome four brand-new attractions to add to the fun: Candy Cane Slide, Frosty Bike Circuit, Dasher’s Roundabout and Fantasia Tinsel Track! The Magro Christmas Family Fest takes place on the 14th December in Xewkija. This year’s celebration is bigger and brighter than ever. Immerse yourself in the beloved favourites, such as festive crafts, hands-on science experiments, a carousel,  merry-go-round, and Ferris wheel, plus the ever-popular free train adventure. Families can explore an enchanting winter market filled with seasonal treats, hot cocoa stations, and handcrafted holiday gifts. With live performances, interactive games, and cozy photo spots perfect for capturing holiday memories, this event promises unforgettable fun for guests of all ages.

While you’re in Malta, make sure you get the ferry over to Gozo – a quainter alternative to the mainland! Visitors can experience old traditions such as the milking of goats and sheep and watch as this milk is prepared into traditional Gozitan cheese. It is also home to the world’s oldest free-standing temples of Ggantija – also a UNESCO world heritage site.

Of course, after such a busy day of activities, you’ll need some nourishment. Luckily, you’re in Malta; home to an abundance of outstanding produce. Food and drink are the very essence of Maltese culture, so it’s not surprising that the Michelin guide 2024 features a total of 40 restaurants across Malta and Gozo. In a first for Malta, the MICHELIN has awarded a Maltese restaurant with two stars, while six restaurants were awarded with one MICHELIN star, and five restaurants made it onto the Bib Gourmand list.
