Athletics Partnership Cleared for Take Off – Shannon Airport Announces Sharlene Mawdsley as Ambassador

#Traveltradetogether

Shannon Airport is hitting the fast lane, announcing a new partnership today with one of Ireland’s brightest sporting stars. World Top 8 400m runner, European medallist and Irish Olympian, Sharlene Mawdsley, will be a Shannon Airport Ambassador for the next three years.

From the track to the terminal, Tipperary native Sharlene Mawdsley has travelled the world and captivated the nation with her record-breaking performances – including taking European Gold and Silver in the 4 x 400m mixed and women’s relay teams last year. With her sights now set on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Sharlene’s appointment aligns with Shannon Airport’s continued support for Irish sporting talent on the global stage.

Speaking at the announcement today, Vanessa McTigue, Commercial Director of The Shannon Airport Group said: “Sharlene is a wonderful ambassador for our region and we’re proud to officially name her as an Ambassador of Shannon Airport today. Her energy, ambition and community spirit reflects so much of what Shannon Airport stands for, as well as speed, connection and recognition on the global stage. We’re delighted to have her represent us for the next three years, during what promises to be an exhilarating lead up to the 2028 Olympics.”

Sharlene Mawdsley added: “Shannon Airport has always been part of my journey. From some of my earliest competitions to now – travelling regularly between London and my home in Newport, Co. Tipperary – it has always made it so easy for me to get to where I’m going! For me to be an Ambassador of Shannon Airport is incredibly special. Whether it’s on the track or the runway, it’s all about teamwork, being ambitious, and doing our best for the region”.

This partnership marks the start of an exciting new chapter for both Sharlene and Shannon Airport. Together they’ll showcase the very best of Ireland’s Mid-West to the world, proving that when it comes to going places fast, they’re always ready for take-off.
