Northern Flights – Finnair announces record-breaking winter schedule to Lapland
The Official Airline of Santa Claus has boosted its schedule to Finnish Lapland.
This winter the airline will offer up to 179 weekly flights between Helsinki and Northern Finland.
Leading Nordic airline, Finnair, has unveiled its record-breaking schedule to Finnish Lapland this coming winter, as it continues to offer unrivalled connectivity across the region.

The new flights come as demand for travel to the Nordic nations continues to rise among customers searching for Santa, the Northern Lights, and an authentic Arctic adventure.
With the updated winter schedule, Finnair will offer up to 179 weekly flights between its home hub, Helsinki, and airports in Finnish Lapland and Northern Finland* – record capacity in the airline’s 102 year history.

The Official Airline of Santa Claus will offer up to 72 flights a week between Helsinki and Rovaniemi, Santa’s Official Hometown – 10 more than in winter 2024.
Customers heading for Rovaniemi can choose from an avalanche of flights during peak periods, with up to 16 flights per day on a Saturday, giving the airline a unique service for Arctic-bound customers.
Those looking to hit the slopes are also in luck, with the Finnish flag carrier having boosted flights to Kittilä – gateway to Levi and Ylläs, two of Finland’s leading ski resorts. This winter, Finnair will offer up to 41 weekly flights between Helsinki and Kittilä – seven more than last season – giving customers the choice of up to eight daily flights at the weekend.
Flights to Ivalo, the EU’s most northerly airport, are also set to receive a flurry of extra flights this winter, with up to 33 services per week from Helsinki – an increase of three on last winter thanks to extra weekend connections.
The popular holiday destination of Kuusamo, located in Northern Finland, will also receive two extra weekly flights this winter, opening up the Finnish winter beauty spot to more British and Irish travellers.
Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director Europe, said: “We are extremely excited to unveil our new winter schedule to Lapland, offering customers the largest choice of winter flights in our history.
“As one of Europe’s bucket-list destinations, demand for travel to Finland has continued to grow over the past few years, so these extra flights aim to cater to demand, especially from British and Irish travellers.
“Timed to coincide with weekend travel patterns and accommodation changeover days, we know these flights will prove popular with customers looking to see Santa, hunt for the Northern Lights or partake in the region’s winter sports.”
One-way flights from the UK to Lapland start at only £127 in Economy with Finnair, including taxes and charges.
Finnair is currently the only major airline to fly to Lapland year-round, offering customers the chance to enjoy the region’s beauty not only at Christmas but throughout the whole year. As the Official Airline of Santa Claus, Finnair also aims to bring the magic of Lapland to the world, proudly flying Santa from his home in the Arctic Circle since 1983.
Customers looking for a new Nordic adventure this winter can choose from Finnair’s 14 destinations in Finland and over 25 destinations in the wider Nordic region.
All services have been specifically timed to allow for easy connections from top UK airports, London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh and the Irish capital Dublin, with smooth and easy transfers between flights from as little as 40 minutes in Helsinki.
