Cinema takes off again with TAP Air Portugal

#Traveltradetogether

Second edition of Altitude Film Fest with applications open until 31 May 2025.

TAP Air Portugal has launched the second edition of Altitude Film Fest, its on board film festival, to celebrate international cinema at 30,000 feet.

This unique festival offers emerging filmmakers from around the world the chance to create movie magic for airline passengers by submitting their fiction or documentary films. A committee appointed by TAP will review the submissions, before handing over to a judging panel of independent film industry professionals to choose 10 finalists. The finalists will be notified by 28 July 2025.

The finalists’ movies will be available to watch on TAP’s long-haul flights throughout October 2025, with travellers voting for their Best Fiction Film and Best Documentary Film. Winners will be chosen based on passengers’ votes (60%) and the judging panel (40%).

The awards ceremony is scheduled for 5 November 2025, World Cinema Day, in Lisbon, with the winners each receiving a travel grant worth €1,500 (£1,124).

Submissions must be 30 minutes maximum and either have been filmed on Portuguese territory or explore the country’s culture. Applications are open until 31 May 2025 with registration costing US$10 (£7.49). Only short films produced between 1 March 2024 and 30 April 2025 will be eligible.

Created to showcase new talent and to provide passengers with a distinctive cultural offer, the Altitude Film Fest transforms the in-flight entertainment system on TAP’s long-haul aircraft into a real cinema room. While recognising the artistic and narrative excellence of the winning films, the awards also give the filmmakers the chance to explore different horizons and take inspiration from new experiences around the world.
