New York City comes to Dublin

New York City Tourism + Conventions

New York, New York. So good they named it twice. The Belle of NYC herself, Tryphavana Cross, hosted a networking event in the Westbury Hotel, located in the heart of Dublin’s fair city on April 7th. Jacinta from Travelbiz was there to support our NYC partners with Don Shearer.

We were welcomed by Robert Beckham (SVP Tourism Market Development Europe) who introduced us to Julie Coker ( CEO & President New York City Tourism & Conventions). Don Shearer (Travelbiz and Travelfinders) had the great pleasure of interviewing Julie earlier in the day with Tryphavana and will share all the updates this week with you all.

Attended by a host of travel agents, the industry’s great and good availed of the perfect opportunity to chat, mingle and catch up with all the news across the pond. Brilliantly representing New York’s huge portfolio of attractions, members of the sales mission had everyone in their grip.

Tryphavana introduced the various speakers, and Robert gave us background and reminded us that New York City is not all about Manhattan, but the five distinct boroughs have so much to offer on an individual basis. Julie mentioned the uncertain times to be navigated, but (if we needed to be reassured!) we would all surely fall in love with New York, doubtless the world’s greatest city. New York welcomed 64 million visitors last year and Ms Coker assured us that Ireland is ultra important, and that the city will always deliver.

One of the sponsors of the evening, Aoife Gregg (Leisure Sales Account Manager) United Airlines advised that Newark Airport is served double daily from Dublin and, only 23 klms from the heart of Manhattan, you could be shopping in Macy’s in a jiffy! Load the United App for invaluable information.

Participants all spoke glowingly of New York; its attractions and immense amenities and the rapt audience soaked it all up. Empire State, Rockefeller Centre, Circle Line, City Cruises, Broadway, Beacon Hotel, Artehouse, Walker Hotels, Whitney Museum and with over 16 major sport franchises, New York will host 2026 FIFA World Cup. And who hasn’t heard of Yankee Stadium!

The lucky winners of two amazing prizes were: 1st Ciara Tuyet (Cassidy Travel) and 2nd Lorraine Devane (Tour America).

Yip, New York awaits your pleasure.
