Finnair unveils new short-haul cabin on Embraer 190 aircraft
Aircraft will be seen on flights from Edinburgh, Manchester and Dublin to Helsinki.
Finnair has pulled back the curtain on its new short-haul cabin, as the airline continues to invest in its onboard experience.
The carrier’s first refurbished aircraft, the Embraer 190 registration OH-LKH, returned to service this week, from Exeter Airport in the UK, where the work took place.
As part of the refit, the Nordic airline has introduced new seats, lighting, and other touches to the aircraft, to bring it in line with the warm, comforting colours introduced on Finnair’s long-haul aircraft and lounges at Helsinki Airport.
The new cabin will offer customers the choice of two new seats, with the total number of seats remaining at 100.
Customers seated in rows 1-9, often dedicated to Finnair’s Business Class cabin, can enjoy newly designed seats with recline functionality and increased cushioning for improved onboard comfort.
Those travelling in rows 10-25, dedicated to Finnair’s Economy cabin, can also enjoy a new seat design aimed at maximising comfort on short hops across Europe, alongside other new features including the addition of LED lighting throughout the cabin.
Finnair’s latest investment will see seven of its E190 aircraft refurbished this winter, with the remainder of the fleet of 12 aircraft having been completed by spring 2026.
As part of the airline’s ongoing commitment to reduce its environmental impact, the new cabin has also been designed to minimise weight, in turn reducing fuel burn and emissions.
Both the new Business Class and Economy seats are lighter than their predecessors, with the selected carpet also made of a lighter material, meaning each aircraft is approximately 150kg lighter than before.
Eerika Enne, Finnair Head of Inflight Customer Experience, said: “After receiving positive feedback following the rollout of our new long-haul cabin, we wanted to invest in our regional aircraft to further improve comfort on flights within Europe.
“Our aim was to create a harmonious, fresh and inviting travel environment for our customers, with dark blue and grey colours and a hint of wooden laminate – colours our customers now associate with Finnair.
“We look forward to welcoming customers onboard our newly refurbished aircraft in the coming months, and with new lighter seats and cabins, we know these aircraft will help Finnair fly into the future.”
The E190 jet, operated for Finnair by Nordic Regional Airlines, operates a range of the airline’s most popular domestic and European routes, including Edinburgh, Dublin and Manchester to Helsinki.
This investment comes hot on the heels of the airline’s long-haul product renewal, including brand-new Business Class, exciting new Premium Economy cabin, and refreshed Economy Class.
