Take the Northern Lights to new heights with Finnair

2025 predicted to bring the best Northern Lights in 20 years.

Finnair is celebrating the start of Finland’s Autumn season, Ruska, which due to the darker nights, is also the start of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) season.

2025 is predicted to bring the most impressive Northern Lights in around 20 years with increased solar flares creating a more intense and recurrent experience. This year, the sun’s solar maximum – an 11 year cycle – will be at its peak, making this winter the perfect time to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Finnish Lapland provides the perfect location for Celestial Tourism, offering roughly 200 days where the Aurora Borealis is visible, starting from September onwards.

As the season’s change, the country’s forests also take on the colours of Arctic Autumn. In September the country’s landscape turns from green into vast expanses of yellow, orange and red, creating a fantastic autumnal landscape.

The season is also the perfect time to see Finland’s wildlife and exploring the natural landscape will show visitors why Finland has been named the ‘World’s Happiest Country’  for the seventh year running.

With its new schedule this winter, Finnair – the Official Airline of Santa Claus – will offers a record number of connections via Helsinki to all its four popular destinations in Finnish Lapland; Ivalo, Kittilä, Kuusamo and Rovaniemi, the Hometown of Santa Claus.

Its popular polar route between Rovaniemi, The Official Hometown of Santa Claus, and Tromsø, the Norwegian gateway to the Northern Lights, is also set to increase from twice per week to six times per week this winter. Finnair is currently the only airline offering this unique connection above the Arctic Circle, putting aurora hunters in ‘pole’ position.

And if luck isn’t on your side, you can always enjoy Finnair’s northern lights experience onboard their A350 flights between London and Helsinki, with LED mood lighting transporting you to the depths of Finland.

Voted the best airline in Northern Europe, Finnair offers flights to a total of 27 Nordic destinations, and is one of the only airlines to offer year-round flights to Lapland.
