It’s breathtaking, it’s captivating, it’s bustling, it’s endless… it’s South Africa! In every province, around every corner, there’s a magic moment waiting to leave you inspired with incredible people underpinning it all. From city life to adventure, wildlife to culture, breathtaking scenery to sun-soaked coasts – discover South Africa.

The Garden Route

The extreme natural beauty along the Garden Route is legendary, a journey interspersed with beautiful swimming beaches, marine reserves, charming coastal towns and unexpected mountain passes. Also on this route and separated from the coast by the Outeniqua Mountains is the semi-desert Little Karoo landscape of Oudtshoorn.

The ideal way to explore the Garden Route is on a self-drive itinerary. Driving is on the left (just like home) and the roads and signage are of a very high standard.

The town of Oudtshoorn is all about those quirky flightless birds – the ostrich. The town owed its prosperity in the past to the ostrich feather industry. A must see in this area is one of South Africa’s oldest tourist attractions The Cango Caves.

Often referred to as the heart of the Garden Route, Knysna is perched at the waters edge of a large lagoon, with two spectacular ‘Heads’ where the lagoon meets the Indian Ocean. Small, but vibrant, it offers a busy waterfront area and a plethora of restaurants. Take a ferry ride across the lagoon to the Featherbed Private Reserve where you will be taken to the top of the cliffs for breath-taking views.

Tsitsikamma Nationsl Park is known as one of the hot spots along the Garde Route for adventure and fun activities – try black water tubing, or mountain biking on the many routes available, hiking, canopy tours -and even a zipline. If that’s not enough excitement for you there is also the highest bridge bungy jump in the world from Bloukrans Bridge at 216M!

The Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape has in recent years been restocked with game and a number of top-quality game reserves can be found in this area. These private game reserves offer an ideal malaria-free luxury game experience and are a perfect extension to any Garden Route itinerary.

Some of our favourite reserves in this area include Kariega Game Reserve, Amakhala Game Reserve, Shamwari Game Reserve and Sibuya Game Reserve where guests can enjoy a highly personalised game viewing experience that includes all meals and game activities.
