Visit USA Dublin Roadshow
1st May 2018 - 3:20pm
Jacinta Mc Glynn (Senior Reporter Travelbiz) accepted the kind invitation of VISIT USA Ireland to attend the Dublin Roadshow lunch in Cliff Townhouse in Dublin. Our gracious hosts, Claire Doherty (Chairperson Visit USA Committee) and Tony Lane (Executive Director Visit USA Committee) introduced their partners from Kansas & Oklahoma, Colorado, Greater Palm Springs, Visit Savannah and Hertz.
We had rousing presentations from the Heartland States of America (Kansas & Oklahoma) and Gateway to Route 66 (Tulsa) where Matt Bates advised us that Icelandair would be the first airline to fly directly from Europe and that Evil Kneivel will be remembered alongside the Harley Davison Museum. Jason Kearns (Hertz) marked the 100th anniversary and showed us the iconic logo and educated on the loyalty programme and Ultimate Choice scheme. Emily Taylor represented Colorado with video shots of the great outdoors, national parks and skiing opportunities. By the way, Denver is arty, cultural and very much a happening place. Rebecca Crannis showed us how Greater Palm Springs actually comprises 9 cities with 9 very distinct cultures with access from LA in a couple of hours or fly into the city’s own international airport. Jo Piani demonstrated how Savannah showcases the Deep South and that Georgia is a bucket list destination. One of the oldest cities in the US, Savannah was used in the filming of Forrest Gump and nearby Tybee Beach is the scene of Baywatch filming. I’m sure Visit USA Committee Ireland could organise auditions for all wannabee stars!
