Directly across the road from our Newport Beach Island Hotel base is Fashion Island, Orange County’s premier coastal shopping destination overlooking the ocean. Fashion Island, an open-air shopping mecca, offers over 125 speciality boutiques, retail stores, prestigious department stores and signature restaurants and draws over 14 million visitors annually. Some of our group (no names, no pack drill) would have been happy to spend their entire time in California here (I don’t think their bank managers would have been too pleased though!). We had dinner, hosted by Fashion Island, in the upscale Fig & Olive Restaurant which has a large variety of extra virgin olive oils on display, to be paired with each dish and offered for tasting at the beginning of each meal. The girls got all glammed up for the evening and the fellas didn’t look too shabby either.
