Kenya with Air France & KLM
16th November 2018 - 5:00pm
Our very Own Jacinta Attenborough reports from the home of the Big 5.
In the ever elusive search for the Big 5, Alison Whitfield (Ethos Marketing) and Frank Mc Caffrey (Air France KLM) brought the travel agents (and Travelbiz!) to Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge in the heart of Tsavo West National Park. We arrived by train from Mombasa on the Madaraka Express, a great service connecting Mombasa with Nairobi, and settled in for lunch. Views from the restaurant include the hazy outline of Mt Kilimanjaro and the distant Tanzanian border, but also the watering hole below where zebra, elephants and lions came to drink.
Beat that for Sunday viewing! Off on the game drive with the Chyulu Hills forming a dramatic backdrop in the bush. Our guides know every inch of their territory and it wasn’t long before we spotted impala, monkeys, French-eared oryx, zebra, buffalo, elephants, giraffes (nibbling their beloved spiny black acacia) and hippos who deigned to emerge from the deep. Enthralling and exhilarating. Off again this morning on a dawn drive where we hope to see the early risers. If we don’t see the Big 5, we’ll return for breakfast and eat at least one of our 5 a day!
