Jacinta keeps her head and celebrates Bastille Day with the French Ambassador!
11th August 2017 - 4:10pm
Jacinta Mc Glynn (Senior Reporter Travelbiz) was honoured to attend a garden party at the French Ambassador’s Residence on Ailesbury Road in Dublin to celebrate Bastille Day. France’s National Independence Day is always a huge event and with the advent of a new Ambassador, it was a further reason to celebrate. His Excellency, Mr Chouzat is personable and delightful – indeed charmant – as one would expect of a French Diplomat. As Mr Chouzat is Ambassador Designate, his Charges D’Affaires spoke on his behalf and welcomed the large crowd to the privileged environs (pronounced with a perfect French accent – AWNVEERHON – naturellement) of the Residence. Mr Chouzat demonstrated his talents by playing piano and accompanying an Irish soprano singing the EU anthem Amhran na Bfhiann and Le Marseillais.
The poet, Michael O’Loughlin, recited a lovely piece he had written and musicians played haunting medleys of blues, traditional and folk. Bien sur, Champagne flowed, wine was drunk in rivers and the food was par excellence. Petits fours, Paris Brest éclairs, macarons and chocolats were served in marquees throughout the gardens. Monsieur Ambassador: “you are spoiling us!” The Cuban Ambassador (He Dr Hermes Herrera Hernandez), Ambassador of Lithuania and Eamon Gilmore (former leader of the labour Party and Tanaiste) chatted, and Eamon told me he is still very active in Europe with Peace Process negotiations. Neil Clancy from RTE was on hand to oversee the entertainment requirements and thereafter, every banker in Ireland was taking care of our financial affairs! Invitations to this garden party were the envy of all and attendees were smart enough to enjoy it! Merci beaucoup.
